December 2011 luncheon report

Our thanks to all who came to our December luncheon. The food was superb AND the presentations were great! You will notice that we posted the requested recipe for Sweet Potato Souffle courtesy of Mary Denna. ALSO if you are interested in other recipes, please let us know and we will see what we can do. Thanks to all who participated. We had a wonderful response.

Pam Elkington talked about Hanukkah. As a child of Lebanese and Israeli heritage she was raised with an appreciation for her cultural background. As an adult she studied and was baptized but shares her heritage for her children and grandchildren. It was enlightening. We also had an opportunity to ask questions.

Mary Wall’s ballet class was a hit again this year. They did an abbreviated version of ‘The Nutcracker’. It was enjoyable to see them dance. It was fun to see the littlest ballerinas’ contribution. Children add an additional dimension to any holiday.

July & August 2011

We hope you had an enjoyable summer. When the season is generally warmer, there are always  many activities and function to keep up busy. Although we have not had the warm days to a great degree, there are many family events, as well as national and state celebations to remind us of the principles of lasting value in our lives.

The fourth of July is full of reminders about the founding of our country and the challenges that we have faced as a country. It is an honor to remember the brave men and women, past and present, who given their life on the line to ensure our continued freedom.

The Mapleton 24th of July is becoming more well known in our community. The settling of Utah is a considerable heritage whether or not we have pioneer ancestors. A reminder of the challenges of the past is never misplaced. The parade, races, events at Mapleton Park as well as the evening events at Ira Allen Park are a credit to our city. May people worked countless hours to bring those events to fruition. Thank you ALL for your service! The fireworks were magnificant.

The Senior Citizen Committee will meet August 4th to begin planning for the coming year. Luncheons will resume September 8th (second Thursday of the month).

The city has three city council seats to be filled in November. Absent one of the seven applicants withdrawing, there will be a primary in September. The 6 with the most votes will be continue to the November election.
